Dr. Temperance Brennan is a forensic anthropologist. Basically, she's a bone geek. She can look at a skeleton and tell you the age of the person, how they did, and other nifty stuff like that. She works that the Jeffersonian Institute, and partners with the FBI to put those awesome bone skills to use solving murders. She also puts those skills to use writing murder-mystery novels and is a best-selling author. It's pretty cool.

Tempe is a little socially awkward, but that could be because her parents were outlaws and abandoned her and her older brother, Russ, as a teenager. She later learned that her given name is actually Joy Keenan, and it was changed when her parents moved the family to a different city to avoid being arrested. Her mother was eventually murdered, and her father murdered to protect his kids, which led to him being arrested and charged, and her finding a way to dimiss the charges. Another reason for the social awkwardness might be in her constant working--she rarely goes out and spends large amounts of time in the lab. Her partner, Seeley Booth, has helped this a little, since he's good with people and she has been learning by example (he does the people, she does the science), but even with Booth and the influence of her best friend Angela, she still has a long way to go.

And she likes rap. It's good music.
